2. Edge and Telecom Optical Transport Networks (OTN)

Telecommunication networks need robust solutions for the backhaul and fronthaul segments of 5G base stations. Using single-mode 3G SFP and duplex SFP28 modules allows carriers to bridge long distances. With Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology, carriers can carry up to 40 separate channels on a single optical fiber pair, dramatically increasing bandwith without laying new physical cables. What is the difference between single-mode and multi-mode transceivers in building layout structures?
Multi-mode fiber (MMF), operating at 850nm, is typically used for short-range runs (up to 500m) inside a single building or rack.
